    Hub frameworks open with the views that suit them

    Pick a Hub framework and it now starts with the views its subject actually calls for — a calendar where there are dates, a board where there are statuses, and the first gallery views, on the reading list and the content calendar. Alongside that: a Hub calendar puts a date on its own day wherever in the world you are, a view’s name shows on its tab, and “Turn into a shape” works when you are a contributor.

    Confidential objects now carry the role needed to read them

    Marking something confidential used to offer two fixed choices. You now pick the minimum role a person needs on the board in order to read it — contributor, editor or admin — per object, and everyone below that sees a placeholder instead: on the board, in exports and through the data API.

    The participants list keeps up with who is actually on the board

    The list of people on a board showed everyone as having been there “just now” and then never changed its mind, so a list left open on screen went on saying somebody was around long after they had gone. It now says how long ago each person was last on the board, and keeps counting while you watch.

    Scrolling around a busy board is as smooth as dragging it

    Last week's panning improvement covered dragging the board with the mouse. Scrolling it — a two-finger swipe on a trackpad, or a shifted mouse wheel — went a different route through the board and did not get the same treatment. It does now, and on a board of several hundred objects that is the bigger of the two.

    You can see who the guests on your board are

    When someone joins a board through a share link without an account, they pick a name on the way in. The participants list now shows that name as soon as they choose it — even if you already had the list open — and marks them as a guest, so you can tell at a glance which people on your board hold an account and which joined by link.

    Panning a busy board is smoother, and the Pan tool works anywhere

    Moving around a board with hundreds of objects on it could judder, worst of all at the middle zoom levels where the most is on screen at once. The board now does far less work as the camera moves, and dragging with the Pan tool works wherever you press — including on top of an object, which previously picked the object up and moved it instead of moving the view.

    Sending a support ticket tells you what it needs

    The Submit button on the support form could sit there looking ready when the form was not, so a click did nothing and gave no reason. The button now switches on only when there is something to send, and when it is off it says which field is still empty. Tickets that were already going through are unaffected.

    Bar charts draw their negative values

    In a Bar chart — the one whose bars run left to right, as opposed to a Column chart — a negative number drew no bar at all. The category came out looking empty, and if you had data labels switched on the number appeared on its own with nothing beside it. Negative values now draw a real bar, running from the zero line in the opposite direction to the positive ones, with the value axis extended to cover them and each label placed clear of its bar. Column charts already handled this and are unchanged, as is every Bar chart whose values are all positive.

    The sharing controls say which access they remove

    A board can let someone in by four different routes — you invited them by email, they joined with a share link, they are on the board's team, or they inherit access from a parent board. The buttons in the participants list did not say which of those they acted on, so removing an email invite could leave somebody on the board at a different role and look like a demotion nobody asked for. The buttons now name what they remove, and after you remove an email invite BoardOS tells you what is still letting that person in and which control ends it.

    Bring a spreadsheet into a table

    Tables could be exported and not filled in. Select a table and there is now an Import CSV button, right above Export CSV: choose a .csv or .tsv file, or paste the rows straight in. You see exactly how it will be read — the separator, whether the first row is column names, the column names themselves and the first few rows — before anything on the board changes. Importing replaces what is in the table, and it is a single undo if it was not what you wanted.

    The overview map moves out from under the toolbar

    On a tablet or a smaller laptop window the board toolbar sits on its own row along the bottom, and it was running straight across the overview map in the corner — covering the lower third of it, including part of the box you drag to move around the board. The map now sits above the toolbar at every window size, and the tools menu keeps the same clearance. On a desktop nothing moves. Separately, the two code objects finally have names you can tell apart: the one that runs your code is now called Code runner, and Code snippet stays the display-only block it always was.

    The Ask AI button gets its own place

    On a laptop-sized window the floating Ask AI button sat directly on top of the board toolbar’s “Who’s on this board” button, so clicking to see who was on the board opened the AI assistant instead — and nothing on screen explained it. Ask AI now sits above the zoom controls in the bottom-left corner, clear of the toolbar at every window size. The overview map and the tools menu move with it, and the toolbar itself is exactly where it has always been.

    Everyone on a board is on the board

    Somebody who joined a board through a share link, or by asking for access and being approved, was only half there: they could open the board and edit it, but nobody could @mention them and they could not @mention anyone — their menu simply never opened. Adding the same person again by email appeared to fix it, which sent people looking at roles when the answer had nothing to do with roles. Everyone with access to a board now counts as being on it, everywhere: mentions, notifications, the calendar assignee list and the participants roster. The mention menu also tells people apart properly, and a guest who is on the board right now can be mentioned like anyone else. Clicking a comment notification now takes you to the comment and opens the conversation, and the screen you see after asking for access keeps you posted instead of ending there.

    The right-click menu opens where you clicked

    Right-click a board and the menu appeared well above the pointer — on a laptop screen it could open a hundred and fifty pixels higher than the spot you clicked, which is far enough that it reads as the wrong menu for the wrong object. It was reserving room for the longest menu it could ever show, whether or not it was showing it. It now measures itself and opens at the pointer, moving only as far as it has to when it is genuinely near an edge. It also no longer slides underneath an open editor panel. And menus close on the first touch of a pen or stylus, rather than waiting for the tap to finish.

    A shape you drew in more than one stroke

    Draw a rectangle edge by edge — lifting the pen at each corner — and every edge is a separate drawing, so “Turn into a shape” had nothing to say about the four of them together. It reads them as one shape now, and the same goes for a circle drawn as two arcs or a triangle drawn side by side. When several drawings don’t make a shape between them, the panel says so instead of showing nothing at all, which is what it used to do. And a single drawing is turned into a shape a little more often than before, particularly a circle or a diamond.

    The bottom of the board, on every screen

    The toolbar along the bottom of a board and the zoom controls in the corner were sharing the same strip on anything narrower than a large monitor — on a tablet in landscape, and on a laptop window at 1024 or 1200 pixels wide, the toolbar sat on top of the last zoom button. They now keep out of each other’s way at every size. The bottom toolbar also stopped wrapping onto two rows when it had plenty of room: it was limited to half the width of the window, so it doubled up on most laptops for no reason. And on a phone or tablet, opening the keyboard no longer hides the field you are typing in — the board and any open dialog make room for it.

    Frames carry what they hold, and comments take you to the object

    Making a selection smaller used to squeeze frames until they sat on top of each other and their sticky notes rode up over the title bar — and growing them again did not pull them apart. A frame now carries its contents with it and stops at the size of what it holds, so the gap between frames survives. Comments got the other half of their job: a comment can take you to the object it was left on, a comment whose object has since been deleted stays in the list and says so, and a comment arriving while you are already reading the conversation no longer piles up as something unread. The Hub’s table cells now commit on Enter like the amount column always did, its date fields have a calendar you can open, and the participants list shows each person’s role.

    Menus stay on the screen

    Two menus could open somewhere you could not reach them. The ⋯ menu on a board card, and the mouse-wheel menu in the corner of a board, are now placed against the button you pressed and against the edges of your window — so they open on the screen, in front of what is behind them, and upward instead of off the bottom when there is no room below. This shows up most on a small window or a phone, where a menu that opened downward simply left the screen. Pressing Escape also puts you back on the button you opened, which matters if you work by keyboard.

    Pro features stop offering you an upgrade you already bought

    If you subscribe to Pro, your plan is read from our servers a fraction of a second after a page opens. Until it arrived, several screens assumed you had not paid: the API access page in Settings offered you an upgrade instead of your tokens, and the teaching tools in a presentation showed the same pitch. They now wait to be sure before they say anything, and a Pro control you cannot use yet is greyed out rather than quietly doing nothing when you click it.

    Frames carry everything inside them, and the board fits a phone

    Dragging a frame now moves the maps, embeds, code blocks, Hubs, Markdown notes, rich text, equations and animations inside it as you drag, instead of leaving them behind until you let go. A schedule covering more than a couple of weeks labels its timeline with grouped months or years rather than squeezing the dates until none of them can be read. And on a phone, the board’s bottom toolbar, its panels and its dialogs now fit the screen you can actually see.

    New objects land in free space, not on top of each other

    Insert two things in a row and the second one used to land exactly on the first, hidden underneath it — every insert button dropped its object in the middle of the screen without looking at what was already there. Objects now find the nearest open space. Dragging or pasting something to a particular spot still puts it exactly where you aimed.

    Charts you can still read when the data gets busy

    Charts with a lot of bars used to fight themselves: value labels broke across two lines and landed on top of the columns, the labels along the bottom shrank to nothing but dots, and a chart set to show currency could round its own axis off. All three are fixed. A busy chart now shows the labels it has room for, in full, and leaves out the ones it does not.

    Worked examples in the community gallery

    The community gallery starts with four boards you can open and read rather than fill in: a weekly sync with a real week on it, a launch plan with the blockers written next to each item, a support-ticket flow including the loops that usually get left off, and a retro that ends in actions with names and dates. They are meant to be taken apart — open one, see how it is put together, clear the notes and use it.

    Averages you can read, and AI buttons that match your theme

    A dashboard average could come out as 37.91666666666666. It now reads 37.92 — rounded where BoardOS worked the number out, never where you typed one. The AI buttons kept their original blue whichever colour theme you picked; they now take the theme’s own colour. And the AI prompt box no longer hands you back the text you cancelled.

    A list that can’t load now says so

    When BoardOS couldn’t fetch a list — your boards, a board’s versions, its comments, your recycle bin, a team’s members — it showed the same message as having none of them. “No boards here yet.” “The recycle bin is empty.” Nothing was ever missing, but there was no way to tell that from the screen. Those places now say the list couldn’t be loaded, and offer to try again.

    A new board you only changed a setting on now keeps it

    A brand-new board is left unsaved until you actually start it — a sticky, a name, a template — so a canvas you glanced at and closed doesn’t clutter your dashboard. Changing one of the board’s own settings, like turning on automatic versioning, didn’t count as starting it. The board stayed unsaved, the setting went with it, and the board never appeared on your dashboard. Now any setting you change starts the board, exactly like putting something on it.

    Exported board data says what it means

    If you build anything on the board data BoardOS exports, one field has been renamed. An object’s confidentiality setting is now written as who can see it — “hide-from-viewers” or “admins-only” — rather than as a role name that had to be read the other way round. Files exported before today still open exactly as they did.

    Invitation links that finish the journey

    An invitation to a board asks you to sign in, because a board is shared with an email address and we have to know you hold it. What it should not do is forget where you were going. Signing in now returns you to the board you were invited to — including from a link that grants editor access, and from a link to a Hub — and an invitation you open a second time opens the board rather than asking you to request access to it.

    Your time zone, and the one that was missing

    If you set a time zone and it showed as “Not set” the next time you opened Settings, your setting was never lost — BoardOS could not display it. The list of zones and the “detected” hint above it came from two different places that spell renamed zones differently, so anyone in Kyiv, Kolkata or Buenos Aires could be shown a zone the list beneath it did not contain. Both now agree. UTC is also selectable, which it was not.

    The share preview is a picture of what you are sharing

    When you publish a selection to the community, the preview that goes with it is what everyone browses by — so it should be a picture of exactly what you published. It was a picture of the area your selection covered instead, which meant an object that happened to sit between two you had chosen appeared in it, even though it was never part of the submission. The preview now shows the objects you selected and the connectors between them, and nothing else.

    Everything on the board is now in the picture

    Eight kinds of object — Hubs, equations, Markdown notes, animated objects, code, rich text, maps and embeds — were left out of every picture BoardOS takes of a board. Export to PDF, PowerPoint or Word and you got a file of exactly the right size with a blank gap where each of them sat. They are all in the picture now, carrying their own content: a Hub exports as its table, an equation as its graph, an animated object as its message held still.

    Your keyboard, your numbers, and three things that got in the way

    Two things in BoardOS quietly assumed an English-speaking setup. If your keyboard is set to anything other than a Latin layout — Ukrainian, Greek, Russian and others — the single-key shortcuts did nothing at all, and neither did Ctrl+Z or Ctrl+C. And if you write decimals with a comma, a number like 110,5 was read as 1105, so any chart drawn from it was ten times too tall. Both are fixed, along with a locked object that let you type into it and then threw the text away.

    Slides that change how things look

    A presentation step can now restyle an object and have it stay that way for the rest of the show — a box turns green, then the arrow between it and the next box goes red and heavy. It is how you show a process running, or a decision landing, without drawing the same diagram five times.

    Presentations you can time

    A presentation no longer has to be one click per thing that happens. You can set how long the show pauses between objects that arrive on their own, decide where in the sequence an animation starts, and let a whole section play itself out and then wait for you. Everything you have already built keeps its current timing exactly.

    Charts can read your schedule

    A chart, a word cloud or a shape can now be pointed at a Gantt chart or a calendar, the same way it can already be pointed at a table or a Hub list. The chart reads the plan directly and keeps up with it, so a burn-down beside a project plan is one object reading another instead of a second table you have to remember to update.

    Exports finish, even when a picture can't come along

    Some websites don't let their pictures be copied into a file. A board holding one of those pictures now exports normally: the picture is replaced by a labelled box saying it isn't included, everything else comes through in full, and BoardOS tells you which site it was so you can add that picture from your device instead.

    Resize a frame and everything in it comes with you

    Dragging a frame smaller now scales the objects inside it — their size and their text — and keeps the arrangement you laid out. A frame will only go as small as its contents allow, so nothing is ever left behind outside the edge, and growing the frame again brings everything back up with it.

    One copy in your colours, the rest of the set untouched

    A piece you place from a library can now be given its own colours — and only that copy changes. It stays linked to the set it came from, so the set can be updated later and your copy keeps the colour you chose. When a colour isn’t enough, you can detach a piece into ordinary objects and edit it however you like.

    Objects that stay linked to their set, and exports that carry the whole board

    An object you place from a library now stays linked to the set it came from, so a board stays light and every copy of a piece is drawn from the same artwork. Exporting a large board gives you the whole board in full detail whatever you were looking at, and without the editor’s own selection marks in the picture. And a change to your role on a shared board now arrives as a notice instead of turning up the next time you try to type.

    Three sets of ready-made objects now ship with BoardOS, and any set — built-in, shared by the community, or from your team — can be kept in your toolbar so its pieces are one click away on every board. Locking an object now protects it from every tool, and a board zoomed out over thousands of objects pans smoothly.

    Connectors you can draw, and files that arrive whole

    Connectors are drawn by dragging now, the way you would expect. Enter starts a new line in a sticky note. Present mode can hold something on screen behind a blur or a cover instead of leaving it out entirely. And the PowerPoint, Word and Excel exports carry the board’s actual content.

    Resizing that behaves

    Shrinking an object further than it could actually be drawn used to leave the whole board unresponsive until you reloaded. Objects now stop at a sensible minimum, boards already affected repair themselves when opened, and resizing shows the same alignment guides as moving.

    Column widths that behave

    Hub table columns now do what you tell them in both width modes — dragging a divider actually moves it, and the status column stops taking space it has nothing to put in. Plus a tidier owner column, clearer Gantt task rows, and the canvas zoom controls no longer run into the Ask AI button.

    Artistic boards

    Boards no longer have to look like a dot grid. There are now whiteboard, blackboard, chalkboard and honeycomb surfaces, ten handwriting and chalk fonts, text that runs a gradient as you type, and shape styles that genuinely look hand-drawn rather than merely styled. Objects can also be animated during a presentation, not only as they arrive.

    Apps, touch and the code engine

    BoardOS became installable — as a progressive web app, a Microsoft Teams app, and desktop and mobile shells — and the board itself became genuinely usable on a touchscreen.
